Consumer Recovery Network began in 2004 with a grass root commitment to educate people about their debt relief options and abilities to deal with personal financial setbacks. We built a unique business model for helping people manage their way through debt struggles that has not been duplicated since.
The CRN blog does more than just offer information about debt. We’ve upgraded this website in order to facilitate open reader participation with all of the free debt relief and credit resource guides we publish. This adds a people-helping-people element to the debt relief process. Readers can now interact with each other, active CRN members, and get professional feedback – all of which is free.
A Little Debt Company Setting a BIG Example
2003 through 2010 saw a HUGE growth in debt settlement programs being advertised and sold, often to the wrong customers, and while charging people far too much in upfront fees. This growth in sales and sensationalized claims combined with unfair fee structures became known for what they were – abuse of consumers on the financial edge – people with the least ability to bounce back after getting taken in by a slick pitch, bad business practices, and poor results.
Where was CRN during this time? We quietly set an example by competently continuing to deliver effective, fair and affordable assistance to our customers.
We were also in the thick of it when it came to calling out bad industry practices for what they were.
- We were reaching out to consumer advocate organizations and sharing our experiences that stood in stark contrast to the abuses in the debt relief and debt settlement services industry.
- We published materials on this site, and others, designed to warn, inform, and educate people about debt relief solutions with a focus on debt settlement.
- We reached out to main stream media outlets to share our opinions – and so did several of our successful members.
- In 2009, we weighed in during the Federal Trade Commission’s 2 year long rule making process to pass amendments to existing laws that would curb consumer abuses in the debt settlement industry. We were one of only a few in the debt settlement industry to fully support these reforms.
We made a difference. We are proud of the positive impacts our efforts have had on the lives of our customers and on the industry as a whole.
We will continue to take our commitment to providing education and informational resources to a new level, and to advocate for continued and positive changes in the debt relief industry.

Hi Michael – we both live in Oregon and you’re just over the river!
I lost the email you sent with your calendar so I could schedule an interview with you for my subscribers and those on social media.
I teach a program called Smart Women Make Money and like most people these days, they need some help on what to do with debt, savings, student loans and forbearance with mortgages.
So I’ll look forward to getting the link and scheduling a Zoom interview or I could do audio. Thanks again, Sherold
